Responsibilities Of A Janitor

Janitors are important for many businesses that have large facilities. A janitor is a person who provides cleaning and light handyman work for a company usually on a daily basis. Janitors clean sinks, toilets, and bathrooms. They are also responsible for keeping bathrooms stocked with toiletry items like toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. Janitors are also responsible for cleaning floors. They sweep, mop, buff, wax and vacuum. Window cleaning is another job that janitors are usually responsible for Janitors may also be required to help move objects to and from storage. When shipments of goods are delivered a janitor may be the person that is responsible for ensuring that those goods make it to their proper destination onsite. Emptying trash cans and replacing the can liners is another responsibility most janitors have. In some cases janitors are responsible for unlocking and locking facilities when it is time to open and close. Outdoor responsibilities may include cleaning of parking lots, curbside areas, and ashtrays. Some of the Handyman responsibilities that a janitor may have are fixing broken locks, replacing faucets and fixtures, replacing light bulbs, and painting.

Most janitors make between fifteen thousand dollars and thirty thousand dollars a year. If they are employed directly by the company they are cleaning for, they usually have additional benefits that include health insurance and retirement. Janitors are also employed through third party companies who are contracted to provide cleaning services on a set schedule. Companies that need cleaning service only once a week or month benefit the most from contracting through a third party. This type of arrangement can be advantageous in the event of janitorial illness or absence. The third party company can easily make arrangements to have another janitor fill in for the absent person. Large businesses usually require cleaning services daily, which prompts them to hire full time staff.
